Supreme Court Says It’s Illegal To Teach Members Of A Terrorist Group Peaceful Means Posted in _Liberaland_ (http://www.alan.com/category/liberaland/) by Alan • June 21, 2010, 5:51 PMET • _2 Comments »_ (http://www.alan.com/2010/06/21/supreme-court-says-its-illegal-to-teach-members-of-a-terrorist-group-peacefu l-means/#comments)

The Supreme Court upheld _the most controversial part of the Patriot Act_ (http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Justice/2010/0621/Supreme-Court-upholds-controv ersial-part-of-Patriot-Act) , the material support law, that says it is illegal to teach peaceful means to members of terrorist groups. The majority opinion, written by Chief Justice John Roberts, says that Congress intentionally wrote the statute with a broad sweep to outlaw material support to terror groups in any form, including assistance or expertise that might help nudge the group toward nonviolence. Chief Justice Roberts quoted a congressional finding in support of his broad reading of the statute: “[F]oreign organizations that engage in terrorist activity are so tainted by their criminal conduct that any contribution to such an organization facilitates that conduct.” Justice Stephen Breyer wrote the dissent. “… I would read the statute as criminalizing First-Amendment-protected pure speech and association only when the defendant knows or intends that those activities will assist the organization’s unlawful terrorist actions,” Justice Breyer wrote. For example, if an aviation expert gave advice that facilitated a hijacking, the expert could be prosecuted for his role in facilitating the hijacking, he said. But teaching leaders of a terror group how to petition the United Nations would not.

Robert, No it is not the same Njoki. I just talked to Deo Njoki. Unfortunately he is not a member of this forum. If he was, he would have told you that he was invited by some people to attend a meeting that he didn’t attend. He therefore like some other mentioned are not party to whatever is attributed to them.

I hope we won’t wake up to denials like the ones of Owek. Muliika.

Before Kagame and his puppet government talks of the rule of law in Rwanda he should first examine himself. Malicious manipulation of the truth, clever handling of the press to hide the truth, intimidations, imprisonments, assassinations, harassments, and excessive use of money, political appointments to power, can never build the hearts of Rwandese to live again together in harmony unless the truth comes out. The refusal to incorporate some experienced Hutu judges and prosecutors, who remained in the country or who returned after the RPF’s victory, as well as the arrest, assassination or departure into exile of a number of them, led to a lack of experienced Judicial personnel in Rwanda. This is a clear testimony that the government controls the legal system in a partisan way which is a big hindrance to natural justice and true national reconciliation. A constitution commits the state to observe the rule of law. However in a 2008 amendment, following the footsteps of Museveni his mentor, Kagame changed the Rwanda Constitution to provide that a retiring president (which presumably refers to the prospect of retirement of President Kagame) “shall not be prosecuted for [high treason or grave and intentional breach of the Constitution] when no proceedings in respect to such an offence were brought against him/her during his or her presidency”. If Kagame is confident that he is clean in his governance as he has always claimed, then there should have been no reason to amend their constitution in such a way that promotes dictatorship with impunity. This constitutional amendment was made just to try and protect Kagame of his sins. Moaning hearts of genocide survivors, traumatised hearts of all Rwandese who lost their loved ones be it Hutus, Tutsis, or Twas, and bleeding hearts of foreigners who lost their loved ones in the Rwanda tragedy can only be calmed and cooled when all parties involved bring out the whole truth as the first step towards true and meaningful reconciliation. Unless the truth comes out willingly from all parties involved and hearts are mended and rebuilt for proper forgiveness, nothing can ever be reached in as far as development, be it physical or moral. Considering all the well documented evidence detailing RPF’s implications in very serious war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide, I strongly believe that there can never be meaningful reconciliation amongst all peace loving Rwandese unless RPF leader Paul Kagame is brought to book and prosecuted for crimes directly related to him and his henchmen. Kagame in my opinion has too much blood on his hands that has badly blinded his logic. That is why he thinks that by harassing innocent, peaceful Rwandese like Ingabire will shield the bitter truth forever. I would personally advise Kagame to step aside and let clean innocent people take over the long journey of leading the peace loving Rwandese people to the much needed reconciliation.

Another Tea Party — and contrary to all the faux Democrat’s stereotyping – that was as usual peaceful

November 11th, 2009 No comments

Isn’t it interesting how Democrats must demonize their political opponents and demand theat the Democrats’ position be assumed reasonable and not political thuggery…

>> Once again, what’s remarkable about this protest is how absolutely ordinary it is. No one is foaming at the mouth; they’re mostly laughing at Giffords’ hypocritical attempts to cast herself as some sort of moderate while mindlessly following Pelosi and her radical agenda. They’re not an angry mob, as the media has cast the Tea Party movement — they’re a motivated group of voters who are sending a message that will only get louder in the coming year.
